Palomar Mountain Planning Organization Minutes, 5/29/2010 Board Meeting minutes

Minutes of the Palomar Mountain Planning Organization Meeting

May 29, 2010

Board Members Present:

Glenn Borland, Cecelia Borland (alternate), Robert Carlyle, Mike Chesney, Steve Clark, Donna Dose, George Evangelou, Elizabeth Getzoff (alternate), Bruce Graves, Doug Lande, George Lucia, Michael Pique, Alan Serry, John Tainer, Linda Thorne, Martha Vargas.

Board Members Absent:

Heather Beer.

The PMPO Board meeting was convened about 1:25 PM May 29, 2010, following the Annual Meeting, at the Palomar Mountain Volunteer Fire Department.

The Treasurer's and Secretary's reports were deferred.

NEW BUSINESS:

Election of Officers

The following were elected for one year terms:

Glenn Borland, Chair;

Mike Chesney, Vice-Chair;

Alan Serry, Treasurer, and

Michael Pique, Secretary.

Well Monitoring:

Michael Pique suggested the PMPO buy its own well probe, to supplement the one purchased in 2000 jointly by the PMPO, the Christian Conference Center, and the Yoga center. Bruce Graves moved to authorize up to $800 for the purchase, seconded by Robert Carlyle, approved with 1 opposed (Chesney) and 1 abstention (G Borland). Steve Clark pointed out the need for a written process to record the data and maintain the probe's accuracy.

Improving the Annual Board Election Process:

Mike Chesney noted the clumsiness of our current process in which nominations, statements, the election, and ballot-counting are all held at the end of the annual meeting, when many members have left. George Evangelou suggests nominations and statements be offered earlier in the meeting, then the election ballots could be counted while transacting other business. Alan Serry suggests urging candidates to declare two weeks or so before the meeting.

Agenda items:

Building issues - George Lucia could ask for a DPLU representative to come up and present what the rules are and how they are enforced or waived.

Oak borer beetle - Doug Lande and Linda Thorne want to alert the community to be wary of moving oak wood uphill. Alan Serry says the disease is serious and we might lose all our healthy oaks.

Next Meetings:

The next Board meetings are

August 21, 2010 [PMVFD Barbecue is September 4]

November 13, 2010

February 5, 2011

March 2011 - newsletter planning meeting

Possible April meeting [Easter is April 24]

Sunday May 1 or Saturday May 7, 2011 - newsletter mailing preparation

May 28, 2011 - Annual general meeting and pancake breakfast

We will consider changing the Board meeting day of the week to accommodate members' constraints - possibly to Sunday afternoons.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 P.M.

Michael E. Pique, Secretary. Minutes approved by PMPO board November 13, 2010
