Winter 1999 seemed to come late to Palomar Mountain, but we did get a little snow at higher elevations about 9 December.

New Year's Eve at the Palomar Mountain Lodge:

The party was just getting going at the Thickstens about 8:00 PM 31 December 1999:
Our Host, Bob Thicksten, didn't even make the kids get out of the hot tub for their cake:
Even by 9:00, the tables still groaned with pies, dips, cookies, and cherry tomatoes:
A few had to leave early, but as 10:00 rolled around, people got happier and happier...
By 11:00, they had discovered previously unknown musical talent:
Midnight! Year 2000 confirmed by pager and GPS... Jack, don't get carried away.
When I was perhaps 10 or 12 years old, in the early 1960s, my late father told me and my brother, "You boys will live to see the year 2000". So, Pop, here's what I looked like when I first saw it: Yes, I do look silly in that hat and glasses...
More champagne, anyone?

A little more snow came New Year's Eve and New Years Day 2000...
just right for visiting friends by the fire, and sipping "oh-one oh-one oh-oh cocoa" (say it out loud..). Anne, thanks for the cocoa and Y2K cookies.
